Alan Turing




Background

On June 23rd 1912 Alan Turning was born at Paddington, London. From 1926 to 1931 he went to school at Sherborne School. In 1930 his friend past away, and he under graduated from Kings College, Cambridge University. From 1932 to 1935 he took an interest in Quantum mechanics. Then he was elected fellow of King's College, Cambridge in 1935. In 1936 the Turing machine, computability, universal machine was invented. From 1936 to 1939 he applied to Princeton University were he wanted his Ph.D. Logic, went to study algebra, and the number theory.By 1938 to 1939 he returned to Cambridge and was introduced to the German Enigma Cipher Machine.By 1939-40 the Bombe, a machine for Enigma decryption was invented by Alan himself. In 1931, Alan Turing committed suicide after being harassed for his homosexuality

Why Is This Person Considered a Computer Pioneer?
He made Colossus which was the first programmed computer. He also made a computing device named the Turing Machine that was able to keep information and answer questions, it was mainly used for mathematical purposes.
